How it all began
When Jay Tervo and Barbara McKenzie became owners of the iconic Inlet Inn in Beaufort, NC, they knew they would not only be working to preserve the Inn, but must also find a way to support environmental conservation and wildlife protection.
Beaufort, being one of North Carolina’s favorite destinations, has recently seen a huge increase in the number of visitors coming to enjoy the historic town and pristine natural surrounds.

Barbara and Jay knew that, as business owners, it was their responsibility to make sure the natural world continued to flourish, all while providing visitors a respite in paradise.

Their inspiration to create Coins For Conservation came from St Simon’s, Pennies for Preservation, in Georgia. They were impressed at how the business community there worked together to save and protect their beautiful heritage oaks and natural world. Barbara told Jay, “I know we can do that in Beaufort!!”
about
Coins For Conservation (C4C) is a business led conservation fundraising initiative in coastal NC. C4C operates as an online resource to support businesses to partner with environmental nonprofit organizations to fund conservation and environmental education projects, thereby preserving and protecting natural resources and endangered wildlife.
C4C’s vision is to inspire community businesses to select a local eco partner and create an annual funding plan that supports their eco partner’s mission. This pledge of support provides a steady funding stream for the environmental nonprofit and provides opportunity for business owners and their patrons to take a stand in protecting nature’s treasures.
C4C promises to heighten awareness and educate visitors to the coast. C4C enhances coastal North Carolina’s standing as a Green Travel Destination and lets folks know that, here on the coast, conservation matters!
After all, conserving and protecting our natural habitats, wildlife and food resources is EVERYONE’S BUSINESS.
